The Atlantic Highlands First Aid & Safety Squad will begin 2012 with a new lineup officers.

The all-volunteer emergency medical services and rescue operation elected Tom Hayden to the position of chief for 2012. Hayden was captain of the organization in 2011 and is an experienced emergency medical technician.

Also elected to new positions were past captain Jerry Pandolfo, who was elected captain; Tom McKiernan, a past captain, was elected first lieutenant; and Sara Weimer was elected second lieutenant.

Lou Marotta was elected to another term as president of the organization. Ed Cetron will become vice president, Walter Curry returns as treasurer, John Ligon as secretary and Beverly Glynn as assistant secretary.

The AHFAS provides the residents of Atlantic Highlands with free, around-the-clock emergency medical services. The organization operates solely on generous donations from the borough and residents.

As always, the organization is seeking volunteers. No experience is necessary, just a desire to help friends and neighbors in need. Free training is provided. The personal benefits are endless.

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS - Santa Claus, the famed jolly fellow in a red suit, will be making his annual rounds through the streets of Atlantic Highlands with special support by a gaggle of elves from the Atlantic Highlands First Aid and Safety Squad the week of Dec. 5.

Each night, Santa and the Atlantic Highlands First Aid Squad will slowly travel block by block to visit with families, hand out candy canes and celebrate the holiday season throughout the borough. And this year, Santas elves will be using digital tools to let folks know exactly where he's at during the tours.

"We live for this week," said Richard Huff, chief of the AHFAS. "For one week, we're all kids, enjoying the season with our friends and neighbors.

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – 1st Ave. Pizza in Atlantic Highlands has donated $2759.95 to the Atlantic Highlands First Aid & Safety Squad  for the purchase of a pulse oximeter - blood pressure device.

The popular restaurant raised the money through a month-long sales drive in which 10% of sales on specific days were set aside for the project.  Squad members distributed fliers and encouraged residents to dine at 1st. Ave Pizza during the drive.

“We at 1st Ave. Pizza thought this was a great opportunity to bring the community together and hold a fundraiser to provide the Atlantic Highlands First Aid Squad with the much-needed equipment to help save people’s lives,” says Butch Sherman, owner of 1st Ave. Pizza.
