ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ. Members of the Atlantic Highlands First Aid & Safety Squad recently got together to have some fun cutting up a car.
The squad, in addition to providing emergency medical services, also handles vehicle extrication tasks at motor vehicle crashes. The organization was given the unused car by a generous resident.
"It is beneficial for the new members to learn how to operate the equipment and for the experienced members to refresh and practice with the tools,” said AHFAS second lieutenant Andrew Crawford.
The squad gathered on a Saturday morning to practice popping doors, cutting a windshield, and safe extrication methods.
When they were done, the squad members had used each of the squad’s extrication tools, practiced, spreading a dashboard and gaining access to a “victim” through various methods.
The Atlantic Highlands First Aid & Safety Squad is an all-volunteer organization that provides around-the-clock emergency medical services and rescue duties to area residents. The organization was recently named the best Volunteer EMS Squad by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Medical Services. The AHFAS operates on donations by the borough and area residents.
